Aurora Borealis Itinerary
Saturday, March 7, 2015 • Fairbanks, Alaska
Upon arrival in Fairbanks, you will be met and transferred to the Sophie Station Hotel. Join your tour director, and Dennis Mammana, for a photographic visit of the Alaska Pipeline en route to a welcome dinner at the iconic Chatanika Lodge. After dinner we will drive up to the summit for the evening’s aurora viewing.

Sunday, March 8, 2015 • Fairbanks
This morning after breakfast, Dennis will present a photographic talk on how to shoot the Aurora Borealis. Following will be lunch at the hotel then a tour of Fairbanks including a stop at the world famous Ice Art Championships before driving up to Skiland Lodge, on Mt. Aurora (2470 ft. elev.) for aurora watch.

Monday, March 9, 2015 • Fairbanks – Chena Hot Springs Resort
Today we will visit downtown Fairbanks and some of the local artisan shops and lunch at a must-see Fairbanks institution before driving out to Chena Hot Springs Resort. Discovered in 1905 by prospectors, the hot springs are located in a 40 square mile geothermal resource area. The water flows out of the springs at 156 degrees Fahrenheit and must be cooled before bathers step into the rejuvenating mineral bath. Late night viewing of the aurora borealis.

Tuesday, March 10, 2015 • Chena Hot Springs Resort
This afternoon Dennis will discuss aspects of post processing your images in the “digital dark room.” Throughout the day take advantage of the steaming pools to recharge for another night’s aurora viewing, or, sign up for any of the multiple activities offered at the resort.

Wednesday, March 11, 2015 • Chena Hot Springs Resort
Another day to relax in the pools, go for a hike or look into one of Chena’s activities around the resort. Sign up early for popular dog sled rides, the very popular dog kennel tour, have an apple martini in the Ice Museum or even take a flight across the Arctic Circle to an Alaskan hunting village. In the evening, Chena offers snow coach tours to the top of a nearby peak for sunset and aurora viewing.

Thursday, March 12, 2015 • Chena Hot Springs Resort
This morning we depart Chena and return to Fairbanks for a farewell dinner at an historic local restaurant with ties to the Gold Rush era from the late 19th century.
