After breakfast our astronomers will lead the group to the Atacama Large Millimeter/sub millimeter Array (ALMA), a revolutionary, global scientific instrument that allows scientists to unravel astronomical mysteries of our Cosmic Origins.

Transfer back to Calama for the flight to La Serena, a seafront town surrounded by stunning scenery and bordered by the Andes. Hotel Diego de Almagro will be our base in La Serena. Dinner at local restaurant.

After breakfast a visit Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, a complex of astronomical telescopes and instruments is planned. The principal telescopes are the 4-m Victor M. Blanco Telescope and the 4.1 m SOAR telescope.

This morning a guided city tour will include the cathedral and Koricancha temple before continuing to the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking the city of Kenko, Puca - Pucara and the Tambomachay. Drive to the Sacred Valley and visit some ceramic ateliers in Urubamba. At Ollantaytambo, the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the Americas where you will visit Ollantaytambo fortress. Overnight at the Ollantaytambo Lodge.

After breakfast take a short walk from the hotel to the train station in Ollantaytambo, where you will take the vistadome train to Aguas Calients. A bus transfer to Machu Picchu and a guided tour of the famous archaeological site today. Later take the bus to Aguas Calientes and the train to Poroy and proceed to Cusco.
